ABOUT
Takako Yoshikawa was born in Osaka. She developed a unique sensitivity
based on the energy she interacted with while traveling the world. As an
artistic creator, she has taken part in a number of branding projects for
major companies, and as a designer has won numerous international
awards abroad, such as in Germany and Italy.
Her artistic endeavors began abruptly at the beginning of 2018. She was
inspired by a mysterious feeling that arose when drawing amplified unique
shapes and symbols. She would become absorbed in the creation by the
brush tip more rapidly than the registering of that image in her mind.
She creates abstract paintings resembling proliferating cells, which are
composed of boars, swirls, triangles, dots, lines, curves, and other unique
shapes. The abstract artwork has a definite “starting point” and from
there, develops one part at a time without hesitation and finally reach its
completion.
There are the monochrome art drawn with pen on paper, as well as the
rich acrylic colors on canvas. For several months in the spring and
summer of 2019, she immersed herself in creative activities on Oahu,
during which period the colors became increasingly more vivid, and she
began to create works inspired by plants.
After the world went into lockdown in 2020, she visited Kyoto, where the
number of tourists decreased sharply. There, Nishikigoi (colored carp)
caught her eye. She became fascinated with the way those carp swam,
and for many days went to watch them swim. That was when she realized
she desired to draw them, and it was the first time for her to depict
concrete figures. The dynamic, bold, and yet simple paintings of the carp
has drawn much attention since then.
Around this time, she began to want to paint auspicious images which
would increase “energy”, such as a treasure ship with an abstract
depiction of the Seven Lucky Gods, or a series consisted of vigorously
prospering wondrous leaves.
